It’s Hybrid, It’s Native.

We have seen a lot of hybrid in the last few years, and that does not appear to be changing anytime soon. We have hybrid cars, hybrid networks, and hybrid church services. We have touched on hybrid services and Bible studies, and today I would like to touch on some updates to hybrid networks.  Print infrastructure has been a hybrid technology [...]

Teams frontline worker experience for church volunteers

By |2021-01-28T12:01:40-06:00January 28th, 2021|Categories: Uncategorized|

Microsoft Teams has become a staple for staff members across many organizations, especially as we continue to work remotely. As some areas begin to open physically again, they may be doing things a bit differently to better protect their community, staff, and volunteers. Communications and process workflows are changing. Teams works great for office staff, but what about [...]

Connecting…

By |2020-12-25T15:50:25-06:00December 24th, 2020|Categories: Uncategorized|

Most of my copy on this blog tends to be technical in nature, however this time of year is too special to simply post another tech tip. I am a network and systems engineer, and a big part of my Job is to connect things to each other. I connect cables, connect networks, connect systems and services. Sometimes we forget about what the systems we build were designed [...]

By |2020-11-19T21:50:17-06:00November 19th, 2020|Categories: Uncategorized|

Today’s post is a tech tool highlight on Open Broadcast Software Studio (OBS). OBS is a great tool for streaming, but also has some unique uses for recording, switching video sources, compositing, and webcam emulation. Plus, OBS is open source and free!  I have touched on using OBS for streaming in the past and will touch on some of the other aspects of the tool in today’s [...]

Knowledge is Good Stewardship

By |2020-07-30T08:02:48-05:00July 30th, 2020|Categories: Uncategorized|

One important thing in any organization is stewardship of resources. This is particularly important in churches. When discussing this topic, the focus is typically placed on financial resources. Stewardship of financial resources applies to technology, the same as any other asset, however there is another type of stewardship that applies to technology, use of that resource. What benefit does [...]

Using Microsoft Teams for a Group Bible Study

By |2020-06-25T12:33:19-05:00June 25th, 2020|Categories: Uncategorized|

The ACTS Group recently ran a survey to determine how churches are handling this unprecedented time. One of the interesting points was the growth of online Bible study or small groups. Of those churches that participated in our survey, only 12.9% were doing any form of online Bible study prior to February 2020. Of that same group, [...]

Microsoft Teams for Group Collaboration and Communication

By |2020-05-14T07:20:09-05:00May 14th, 2020|Categories: Uncategorized|

As many churches have adopted remote work by necessity, some are evaluating the usefulness of the tool they selected in the heat of the moment. Perhaps an organization selected Zoom, but find it lacks file management and group collaboration outside of a scheduled meeting. Perhaps you have been using OneDrive to share files, but find it lacks real time voice [...]

The New Normal of Connecting With Your Congregation

By |2020-04-14T07:24:14-05:00April 14th, 2020|Categories: Uncategorized|

As churches discover their new normal, the ACTS Group is here to help. We understand technology can be daunting and complicated. Regardless, technology has become a lifeline - a critical component in staying connected during this time. Unfortunately, even things that are supposed to be “easy” don’t always work as intended. Exponential.org has published a church [...]

Evaluating a Church Live Streaming Service

By |2020-04-09T08:09:29-05:00April 9th, 2020|Categories: Uncategorized|

Things have changed for churches in the recent weeks, and while many have scrambled to establish live streaming workflows, others are comfortable in their long-standing processes. The reality of it is, both are likely to experience trouble. Many church specific streaming services have been overwhelmed by the onslaught of churches joining their platform all at once. [...]

Live Streaming Church Service When Closed by the Coronavirus

By |2020-03-19T10:45:06-05:00March 19th, 2020|Categories: Uncategorized|

In recent days, many of us have tried things we have never done before. Perhaps working from home or waiting in lines wrapped around the store to get groceries. School districts extend spring break while evaluating online learning options and look at the possibility of students not returning to campus until the fall. Conferences and events [...]
